QFAB, a Qatari incorporated joint-venture between McDermott Intl and Nakilat (Qatar Gas Transport Co, over the course of 2023 made a significant contribution to McDermott’s worldwide achievement of a Safety TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate) of 0.07 and a Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR) of 0.1 by coming below both of these figures with a TRIR of 0.06 and a 0 LTIR, whilst achieving a QFAB site record of 6.2 million Man hours incident free in 2023.
The “Safety in a Nutshell” program acts like a crack special task force from Safety! Whenever an incident or a trend appears we initiate the team and address the root causes and apply the best fix to eliminate the potential for any escalation. We do this immediately by application of the ‘Stop Work Obligation’. We then complete an investigation and provide the current information, instruction and training required to the workforce utilising kinaesthetic measures to ensure all involved are hearing it, seeing it and actually doing it to increase the reinforcement of the correct behaviours and responses to eliminate the source of the incident or trend.
John Angus Macpherson, Managing Director, QFAB said ‘’In 2024 QFAB will build on its previous successes by implementing some key elements in behavioural adaptation through the ‘Incident & Injury Free’ ( IIF) Programme, the STRIVE Programs and QFAB’s Operating Values.
Safety does not happen by accident and by utilising our threefold safety chord, the ‘STRIVE’ program alongside the project IIF Program and the internal QFAB “Safety in a Nutshell” Program, these have all combined and contributed to driving down incidents while managing risk and opportunities in equal proportion.”.
